Hammond and her colleagues have now come up with a novel delivery vehicle in which RNA is packed into microspheres so dense that they withstand degradation until they reach their destinations. The new system, described Feb. 26 in the journal Nature Materials, knocks down expression of specific genes as effectively as existing delivery methods, but […]
MIT engineers at the Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies came up with ways to protect and heal soldiers on the battlefield. Their newest invention is a sponge that stops bleeding instantaneously. “When we have a very heavy wound or a large amount of bleeding, we need to stop the bleeding immediately,” said Dr. Paula Hammond. “We’ve […]

President Obama at MIT VideoEnergy researchers find Obama an eager student Paula Hammond, along with research collaborator Angela Belcher, demonstrated work on using genetically engineered viruses to produce self-assembling solar cells and batteries. “He was very responsive, and an incredibly warm person,” Hammond SB ’84, PhD ’93, the Bayer Professor of Chemical Engineering, said of […]
Hammond named Bayer Professor in Chemical Engineering Paula Hammond has been named the MIT Bayer Professor in Chemical Engineering thanks to a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Bayer Foundation that will also support a fellowship for Bradley Niesner, a first-year graduate student in the department.
Hammond Tenure Additionally, the following 16 have been promoted from associate professor with tenure to full professor so far this year: Mitchel J. Resnick of media arts and sciences; David W. Miller of aeronautics and astronautics; Paula T. Hammond of chemical engineering; Franz-Joseph Ulm of civil and environmental engineering; Hari Balakrishnan, Dennis Freeman, Alexandre Megretski, […]
